Do you know when humans started to celebrate birthdays?
This tradition started with Egyptians, Ancient Greeks added candles to cakes, in Ancient Rome tradition spread among common man, Christians initially considered birthdays to be a pagan ritual.
Here is what I have in mind about the birthday ritual re-invention:
EXTRAORDINARY BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION
On the day you were born count the years and months of your age.
For example, I was born on 16-October and I celebrate my life and time in it every month on 16th days.
Spend it in a good company, do something new or unusual, or what were longing to do for a long time.
THE DAY BEFORE
It's the end day of the whole year of life.
Only this time I called it turning 30 years and 365 days on 15-October-017.
Do something memorable, make photos, write in the journal, watch a great movie, have a lovely walk, dance, read a book, check your bucket list.
You know better how you like to celebrate birthday. Hope you are not the one who thinks that birthdays are for kids.
An adult who is kid at heart has a best chance to dig into this approach of unusual birthday celebration.
General rule: make many memories and store them somehow.
Top three reasons to try this odd idea:
you'll have 11 awesome memories about your "birthday" before the actual one. Much less pressure on the yearly one to be ideal.
you'll have more days spent like the best days in your life. More epic stories, photos and memories.
you'll feel more alive when you look back on the year of celebrating your life monthly.
It's important to mention that my point of view on celebration is not about the party. I have a little experience of visiting Birthday parties. My only planned Birthday party at school didn't happen as no one came. As adult I had one party when I turned 29. It was awesome.
You would not read this article if my 31st Birthday went according to plan. Visiting Vilnius in autumn remains on my bucket list.
Someone who thinks that work = love will understand that since we stayed home after Bobo caught a cold, I continued working to stick to the 6-16-26 publishing schedule.
This article was inspired by photos discovered in the process of my daily logs review. I added park of stones to my bucket list in April-016. We just moved back then to Minsk and it was the first month when I began this odd practice of celebrating my life monthly.
From then I began to notice the fact that I’m growing one month older on the 16th days of the month. We visited park of stones on 16-June-017 and the day before I took the photo of poppies and irises.
